The Easter Bell Tolls

Joy in the Empty Cross

Christ has risen

The bells are ringing

People are singing, Glory

Glory to God on high

The Saviour said

The Kingdom is within you

John, in his Revelation dream

Saw Christ on a white horse

And all the army of heaven

Following to do battle with evil

So we wait for outside intervention

It may come yet; that I can’t deny

I once vowed to ride

In that army, if he’d have me

Though today I cry for the state

Of our God-given earth

And the pain of my brother

Who is the soul near

And the one far that I do not know

By name, but am taxed by faith

To love just the same

Christ said The Kingdom

Of God is within you

There is a mad chance

Open to individual interpretation

Of course, as everything is

That the help we await

Is already here

It is inside each believer

That Kingdom of which

Our Saviour speaks

Is perhaps not waiting in the clouds

Above to rein down in Glory

But that Glory is inside the heart

Of mere mortal man

Hiding in plain sight

Wait if you want

Wait, if you will

But I think the Christ

We so dearly desire

Lives and breathes

In each believer

The Kingdom is here

It’s not about pulpits

Praise giving or alms

It’s how we go about living

That one simple parable

Do onto your brother

Christ gave us the key

The Kingdom belongs

To you and to me

I’m old and have since Adam was dust enjoyed writing. Poetic licence? But I do have the wrinkles to back it up, almost.
